In a world where Heads of nations refuse to disclose about their salaries and demand for more despite the facilities they receive along with their monthly income, the President of Uruguay Jose Mujica (José Mujica) donates 90% of his salary to charity which made him receive this international recognition and the title of "the world's 'poorest' president".
Jose Mujica, the President of Uruguay lives (76 years), from the beginning of the month of March 2010, in a rustic house with his wife Lucia Topoulanski, a member of the Senate, who also donates part of her salary.
In an interview conducted by the newspaper "El Mundo" recently, Mujica said that the most expensive thing owned in his car "Alfolex Volkswagen Beetle" valued to 1945 U.S. dollars, and added that he was receiving a monthly salary of $ 12,500, but he retains $ 1250 only and donates the rest to associations charity.
And the President says that the amount he leaves for himself is enough to live a decent life , especially since many of his country people live for less than that.
Moreover, The "Yahoo News" website declared that the president does not have any bank accounts nor debts, and he enjoys his time with his dog, "Manuela". And all what he wishes during his presidency is to live a peaceful life in his ranch, accompanied by his wife.
The index of International Transparency indicates that the corruption rate in Uruguay dropped significantly during the mandate of Mujica, as this country ranked the second in the list of the least corrupt countries in Latin America.
The president says that "the most important thing in the exemplary leadership is to take the initiative action so that others would apply easily."
